Home away from home

The first 2 photos are my home away from home at the Hyatt. The last 2 are my other home away from home- the Mammography department at Naval Medical Center Guam.
After a much needed and really great night's sleep, I awoke at 330 a.m., drank a large glass of water and promptly went back to sleep. I got up at 630, showered and received a phone call from Petty Officer Rico , the mammo tech I'll be working with here at the Naval Hospital in Guam. After trying to relay rather lengthy directions, she sent one of her co-workers to meet me at the hotel and I followed him back to the hospital. Although Guam is not big, the streets do not have prominent signage and all seem to be named after saints, martyrs or former heads of state! Thus I appreciate the escort.
Today the mammo schedule was relatively full; we did 10 patients with a few potential candidates for accreditation submissionThe schedule the rest of the week is not as full as it should be when seeking many imaging studies from which to choose for accreditation, so HM2 Rico and I created a flyer which was circulated to other departments soliciting eligible participants for screening mammography. One of the radiologists and I went to the Pharmacy and engaged them to recruit patients for us as well, patterning our "Mammo while you wait" program" in place at Balboa in San Diego. Kudos Cdr. Cline for this functioning process improvement mechanism which now may be rolled out here as well. Tomorrow we plan to commence the paperwork associated with the accreditation process. no fun, but necessary. Hopefully the schedule will fill up or we may have to go on a recruitment tour.
I ended the day with the beginnings of a headache (probably a combo of length travel, lack of sleep and 15+ hour time difference jet lag) so stopped at the Kmart on my way home to pick up some drinks and snacks. It is reportedly the 2nd largest Kmart in the world. I'll have to Google and find out who has the first place honors. The crazy thing is that there were huge buses of Japanese tourists coming to the store. Admittedly they having everything one could wish to find and much that you don't , but a tour stop???? I feel totally comfortable here with my ever-present camera hanging around my neck. Those same Japanese tourists have nothing on me! I'm looking forward to watching the sunset from my balcony and turning in early tonight. Tomorrow and successive nights I am going to try and watch it from a different site each night.
All the radiology staff here are friendly, welcoming and appreciative of my assistance. I am happy to help.

  1. I'm cracking up that the KMart is a tourist stop :>. Sounds like you are making the most of your time there at work and afterwards. I love that you plan to see the sun set from different locations each night, what a great idea!
